Edgar Martins and the "Incredible Stairs to Nowhere"

I mentioned I would post a few articles concerning the Edgar Martins controversy with the photo above which was printed in the NY Times Magazine. I believe Rob at A Photo Editor was the first to write about it. You can find that article here. You can find more information and several more links on Joerg Colberg's wonderful blog here. And here is NY Times response to its readers..

Summer Exhibitions

Here are a few exhibitions going on around town and up in L.A. over the next couple of months. A major mentor of mine, Mark Ruwedel, has a wonderful show of new work up at Gallery Luisotti. My dear friend Yvonne Venegas has her first solo show that just opened up at Shoshana Wayne Gallery, which like Luisotti is located in Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. If you make it to Bergamot definitely stop into Rose Gallery as well.

RE:VIEW at Joseph Bellows Gallery

Taking Aim opens at MOPA on June 12th. The Museum also has two other exhibitions running through the Fall.

Catherine Opie: Figure and Landscape opens at the Los Angeles County Museum July 25 - October 17.

Engaged Observers: Documentary Photography since the Sixties June 29–November 14, 2010 at the Getty.

Dennis Hopper: Double Standard at MOCA in L.A. July 11 - September 26

Is Photography Over?

SFMOMA invited 13 participants to participate in a symposium in a few weeks and to begin the discussion they asked them that question. The participants include Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Trevor Paglen. You can find all the initial responses here or attend the symposium April 22-23.

UPDATE: I just read an interesting addition to this conversation by Paul Graham over on his site. (via). And here is Christopher Rauschenberg's response over at Conscientious to Graham's article.
